Purpose:

The Faculty Conduct Committee (FCC) provides faculty oversight for concerns related to the professional conduct of professors (of all ranks) that cannot be resolved informally within departments or divisions.* The FCC reviews such concerns and makes recommendations to the FAS Dean or their designee on what actions to take, in accordance with the FAS Professional Conduct Policy.

The FCC was established as a two-year pilot and is composed of tenured faculty members.

* Individual formal complaints under the University’s Non-Discrimination and Anti-Bullying (NDAB) procedures fall outside the purview of the FCC and follow the NDAB process.

Purpose:

The FAS Committee on Campus Use and Operations advises the Dean on the implementation of the University’s Campus Use Rules within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The Committee helps ensure that FAS guidance is applied consistently, transparently, and in ways that reflect the needs and values of the FAS community.

The Committee reviews and recommends updates to FAS guidance, considers feedback on how the rules are working in practice, and provides advice on questions that arise in their application. It also serves as a sounding board on operational issues related to the use of campus spaces.

The Committee is advisory. Final authority for interpretation and implementation of FAS guidance rests with the Dean and designated administrative officers.
 

Any student, faculty member, or administrative officer who has an inquiry, suggestion, or complaint may address it to the Commission of Inquiry, c/o Office of the Secretary of the Faculty, University Hall. The Commission will then direct the inquiry, suggestion, or complaint to the appropriate agency of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. When such an agency does not exist, the Commission will attempt to aid in resolving the matter. The Commission is sometimes instrumental in establishing a new agency for handling recurrent issues. Although the Commission has no power to make rulings, it can play an advocacy role in pressing for the resolution of issues.

Ordinarily, the Commission reports to the community on the matters that come before it and, in so doing, attempts to keep the community informed about factual background material and the resolution of matters of community concern.
